In which certain facts are clarified about a seminar that drivers are required to attend as part of the Philippines' jeepney modernization program
As part of the Philippines’ jeepney modernization program, drivers and owners of traditional jeeps are required to attend the CETOS, the Cooperative Education and Transport Operations Seminar that is organized by the Office of Transport Cooperatives (OTC).
In a previous post, I mistakenly said that the CETOS [See: The difficulties of establishing a jeepney cooperative]
takes several days to complete and covers subjects such as fleet management, dispatching, and preventive maintenance (which involve oil change and tire replacement schedules of vehicles, among others).
This is not entirely accurate. My bad.
Based on my interview with OTC officials including Chairman Andy Ortega, Ramil Urrera, and Celino Geronimo, the CETOS is a basic seminar that lasts for eight hours and is conducted by the agency twice a week. Fleet management as well as financial management seminars, while also conducted by the OTC, are separate and advanced training programs for members of jeepney cooperatives. [More about this in another entry that I intend to write.]
